QUEZON City — The University of the Philippine Open University (UPOU) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last 19 June. The MOU aims to upskill professionals and other stakeholders through the offering of applicable courses, and to enable UPOU to assist DSWD in developing and streamlining its courses to participating learners.
The MOU signing was attended by UPOU officials, namely: Chancellor Dr. Melinda dP. Bandalaria, Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) Dean Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) Director Dr. Finaflor F. Taylan, and PDA for Institutional Linkages Ms. Margaret Jarmin-Suarez. DSWD Secretary Rexlon T. Gatchalian also delivered a keynote address.
The MOU signing was held in line with the celebration of the 2023 Social Workers Day. This activity aimed to discuss the rights, privileges and welfare of Filipino social workers. DSWD Assistant Secretary Janet P. Armas discussed the Republic Act No. 9433 or the Magna Carta for Public Social Workers (PSWs) while DSWD Undersecretary focused on the promotion of the well-being of Filipino social workers.
