UP Visayas officials sealed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI officers yesterday, 22 August 2022, to capacitate Local Government Units (LGUs) on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction.
Chancellor Clement C. Camposano and Dr. Philip Ian P. Padilla, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, represented UPV in the ceremonial MOA signing held at the DSWD FO VI at Molo, Iloilo City. DSWD FO VI was represented by Ryan De la Gente, OIC Assistant Regional Director for Administration, and Judith Barredo, OIC Division Chief of the Disaster Response and Management Division.
Prof. Jessica A. Dator, UPV’s Project Development Assistant for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change, was also present in the activity.
DSWD FO VI continues to recognize the importance of establishing partnerships with academic institutions such as UPV to empower LGUs and their constituents to work together with harmonized efforts in developing healthy, safe, sustainable, and resilient communities.
UPV’s pool of experts will provide technical assistance in climate science and its cross-cutting sectoral themes, green technologies, and best practices for risk assessment and enhancement of the adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities to potential impacts of climate change as created under the Climate Change Act of 2009 or Republic Act 9729.
