The UPV Action Research Project (UPV ARP), in collaboration with the Department of Education – Schools Division of Silay City (DepEd – SDO Silay City), conducted an Orientation-Workshop on Assessment Strategies, Innovation and Research Development among Junior High School (JHS) teachers teaching Science, Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan, and Technology and Livelihood Education subjects on 12-13 January 2023 at Natures Village Resort, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
This was part of the UPV ARP’s ongoing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DepEd Region VI which aims to strengthen and cultivate the culture of research in Western Visayas.
Led by the new UPV ARP project managers, Prof. Jeena A. Amoto and Ms. Elna Mariel M. Nanta, with the aid and expertise of Prof. Early Sol A Gadong, the JHS teachers were capacitated with the basics of learning assessment, action research, and trends in educational innovation.
During the orientation-workshop, the UPV ARP team emphasized the role of research in educational development highlighting the “need to find out,” “the already known,” “what can be done,” and “how to put everything all together” to improve the quality of teaching and learning as we embrace the new normal in education.
The activity included lecture sessions, presentation of rubrics, cluster writeshops, presentation of outputs, and a feedbacking session. The activity resulted in three drafts of research proposals per subject area to be polished and to be submitted to the Schools Division for approval and conduct.
It was attended by identified grassroots teachers, master teachers, program lead coordinators, and education program specialists of the Schools Division.
The activity was organized by the Schools Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) of DepEd – SDO Silay City headed by Mr. Jose L. Quinto with his Senior Education Program Specialist for Planning and Research Ms. Rofely R. Napoles.
Prof. Amoto and Ms. Nanta said that the activity opens the possibility for an agreement with the Schools Division and that the project has a lot in store for #AksyonDayon this year 2023.
