NEWS | UP Padayon successfully conducts the 4th Public Service Writing Fellowship

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines, September 2 — The University of Philippines Padayon Public Service Office successfully conducted its two-day Writing Workshop for the 4th Public Service Writing Fellowship (PSWF) from 31 August to 1 September 2023, at Hotel Vivo in Baguio City. The Writing Workshop (Writeshop) was held to support the Padayon Fellows in developing and publishing their research output and to serve as a platform for the discussion of their research proposals with mentors and peers.

 

The nine Padayon Fellows were selected from several applicants belonging to the nine UP Constituent Units. The selected fellows are Assistant Professor Jeena A. Amoto and Assistant Professor Rommel J. Gestuveo, Ph.D., from the College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas; Assistant Professor Marc Immanuel G. Isip, Ph.D., from the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, UP Los Baños; Assistant Professor Rodgessa A. Lopez from the School of Management, UP Mindanao; Professor Aurelio P. Vilbar, PhD from the College of Social Sciences, and Associate Professor Mary Gretchen F. Chavez, DBA from the School of Management, UP Cebu; Ms. Dona Lyn M. Piamonte from the Faculty of Management and Development Studies, UP Open University; Ms. Anna Lourdes R. Cruz from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and Assistant Professor Nelson G. Cainghog from the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, UP Diliman. Aside from the writeshop, the fellows are also given a grant at the end of their fellowship.

 

Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs and Office of the Alumni Relations Director Jeanette L. Yasol-Naval Ph.D. delivered the welcoming remarks while UP Padayon Director Cherish Aileen A. Brillon, Ph.D. introduced the nine Padayon Fellows and their research proposals.

 

Assistant Professor Zita Concepcion M. Calugay of the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG) opens the first day of the workshop with the topic Public Service as Research: Challenges and Trends in a Post-Pandemic World while Associate Professor Louie Jon A. Sánchez of the UP College of Mass Communication delivers a lecture on Araling Kultural bilang Paglilingkod-Bayan (Cultural Studies as Public Service) where he looks at the role of mass media in shaping and influencing our notions of public service. The Padayon Fellows, mentors, and organizers were also treated with a visit to Museo Kordilerya. UP Baguio Chancellor Corazon Abansi and Museum Director JJ Josef facilitated the visit.

The second day opens with a discussion on Locating Public Service Research in Academic Publishing facilitated by Associate Professor Michael A. Tumanut of UP-NCPAG. It was followed by a presentation and critiquing session by the peers themselves.
