Objective:
The slit skin smear reading service was first offered on April 2011 when residents from the PGH Section of Dermatology started sending out their leprosy patient slides for AFB staining and quantitative bacterial load determination to the Department of Medical Microbiology.

As of the moment, the only beneficiary of this service is the PGH- Section of Dermatology patients who are diagnosed with Hansen’s disease
