The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) invites its partners, friends, supporters, and alumni to the episode 12 of the “Edu-Hack: Navigating a Turbulent Educational Landscape” on 25 August 2020 at 10:00 AM. In this episode,   the UPOU Kaagapay+ will be launched as well as the first UPOU virtual #hangOUTs.

“What will it be like to study for a university degree during a pandemic?” is the theme for this episode, a second part of the Edu-Hack held on 7 July 2020. The discussion will focus on the panel members’ experiences during this public health crisis, the  difficulties they face as online learners, and how to support other online learners  in pursuing their dreams. The panel members for this episode are UPOU students, namely, Irene Abigail S. Guerrero, Doctor of Communication Student; Engr. Mike Clester S. Perez, Diploma in R&D Management Student; Lin Nicole Gutierrez, BA in Multimedia Studies Student; and Ma. Alyssa Janelle, Diploma in Language and Literacy Education Student. Ms. Mia Marci, the newly elected President of UPOU Alumni Foundation Inc.,  will serve as the moderator.

One of the highlights of this event will be the launching of UPOU-Kaagapay+, an expansion of the Kaagapay sa Pag-aaral ng Iskolar ng Bayan or #KaagapayUP launched by the UP System. UPOU-Kaagapay+ aims to help address the different and yet unique needs of the UPOU students. The UPOU Kaagapay+ will include the following support:

  1. Desktop Computers, Laptop, and gadgets
  2. Monetary Support – This can include support for load and internet subsidy allowance
  3. Educational Apps and Software

  5. Peer Support (Virtual Hangout)

The episode is also the first virtual session of the UPOU #hangOUts, a venue where UPOU students exchange insights and share experiences as online learners. The #hangOUts is also one of the strategies of the UPOU Office of Public Affairs (OPA) to strengthen UPOU’s relations with its  students and alumni. This three-in-one event is open to all interested participants. E-certificates will be given to registered participants who submit evaluation forms. All interested participants may register at https://networks.upou.edu.ph/podcast/.

Edu-Hack is UPOU’s effort to discuss how Philippine universities are responding and adapting to disruptions in higher education brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Edu-Hack is also part of the #OPENFight program, UPOU’s banner program for all efforts towards coping and managing resources amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
