Objective:
The on-demand trainings on organic vegetable production started in 2016 due to the demand of a potential partner-client. It was right in time for the implementation of the station’s Techno-Demo Project for the mentioned commodity since 2014.
The Organic Production System of Vegetables is the initial engagement of the station towards Organic Farming in support of the program of the Office of the Governor of Negros Occidental under “Organic na Negros”, which aims to make Negros the Organic Food Bowl of the region.
The vegetables that are being cultivated organically include (1) pole and bush snap beans, (2) squash, (3) pole sitao, (4) okra, (5) and ampalaya (organic in conversion).
The project has three following objectives. First, it aims to demonstrate the Organic Production System of the above-mentioned vegetable during training activities, exposure visits, and station anniversaries. It also seeks to produce organic vegetable seeds. Lastly, the project also aims to prove the productivity of snap beans at low- to mid-elevation area, considering that is a highland growing crop.
