True to the Division of Professional Education’s mission of inculcating values of academic distinction, nationalism and service, the faculty members, students, alumni and former faculty members of the Division distributed bags and school supplies and bags to 50 elementary pupils from Estancia, Iloilo and Cawayan Elementary School, Carles, Iloilo on May 30, 2019.
This education drive, dubbed as Coastal Happiness Drive, started as a rummage sale last December 2018 where some clothes, books and other goods and merchandise of the faculty members of the Division were sold so that the sales will benefit some ProfEd-adopted coastal communities.
Twenty-five elementary pupils residing at Sitio Ice-Creaman of Estancia, Iloilo received their school bags and school supplies distributed by some faculty members and students of the Division under the Master of Education programs, while another 25 pupils of Cawayan Elementary School received their school bags and school supplies distributed through the efforts of an M.Ed alumnus.
“Gusto gid namon mag-eskwela,” quipped one pupil from Sitio Ice-Creaman when he received his school supplies.
Jesie T. Silva, M.Ed Biology student added, “This experience is truly a testimony of the university’s commitment to be of service to the most in need. This simple gesture inspired the kids to do well in school, and for me to become more mindful of others. I just wished we have more to give.”
The distribution of school bags and school supplies was in coordination with Mr. Jun Victor F. Bactan, assistant principal for Senior High School of Estancia National High School, Estancia, Iloilo and Mr. Ludy John Capilastique, faculty member of Cawayan National High School, Carles, Iloilo, an M.Ed (ESL) alumnus.
