Analytical Service Laboratory (ASL) and Soil Test Kit

Objective:

The Analytical Service Laboratory (ASL) of the Agricultural Systems Institute (ASI) of UPLB CAFS is tasked to serve a wide group of clientele, which includes employees of government agencies, private individuals and companies, farmers, as well as students who are in need of services for soil, plant tissue, water, and fertilizer analyses.

It was established as a product of research of the Soils and Agro- Ecosystems Division, Agricultural Systems Institute (ASI), College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) in cooperation with the National Food and Agricultural Council (NFAC).

Another product of research offered by the unit is the Soil Test Kit, which was developed by the Department of Soil Science with NFAC. Analysis by the Soil Test Kit is a quick method of evaluating the fertility of a soil. Results are interpreted and used as basis in making a recommendation about the right kind and amount of fertilizer for a particular crop if grown in the soil being tested.
