“In terms of projections, we hope na baka third week [of February] o sa March, bumaba ito (number of new COVID-19 cases). Hinihintay lang kasi natin ‘yong provinces,” said Jomar Rabajante of the University of the Philippines (UP) Pandemic Response Team.

(In terms of projections, we hope that by the third week of February or March, the number of new cases has decreased. We’re still waiting for the provinces.)

Rabajante said that currently, the bulk of new COVID-19 cases come from the provinces since the National Capital Region (NCR) is already in a “declining phase.”

On Monday, the University of the Philippines (UP) revived Tsek.ph, an alliance of 23 academic, media and civil society organizations committed to identifying and flagging disinformation on social media.

First set up in 2019 during the midterm elections, the alliance was revived “to make it in time for the 2022 elections,” said project co-coordinator Rachel Khan, associate dean of the UP College of Mass Communication.

We are cordially inviting you to join us in the virtual Awarding Ceremony of the 4th Gawad Pangulo: Award for Excellence in Public Service on December 16, 2021, at 9:30 AM, via Youtube and Facebook. Meanwhile, UP Center for Women and Gender Studies Director Dr. Nathalie Africa-Verceles said VAWC is the “most egregious manifestation of women’s subordinate position in the society.”

“Violence against women is gender-based and systemic. It happens to women because they are women. It happens to women because they are women and all women and girls are vulnerable to VAWC. It’s about male power and control over women and takes many forms,” Verceles said.

The University of the Philippines (UP) joined an alliance for media coverage and an advocacy campaign for the 2022 Philippine national elections.

A signatory to the GMA 7-led initiative, UP President Danilo Concepcion represented UP in the launch of the Eleksyon 2022 alliance and the “Dapat Totoo” advocacy campaign, held virtually on November 26, 2021.

As in past partnerships for national elections coverages, UP is one of the top Philippine universities to make its research and expertise available for public educational purposes.

“Ang sina-suggest nga namin, baka puwedeng i-consider ito after na ng holidays, January. I-ready muna natin ‘yong society,” ani Jomar Rabanjante ng University of the Philippines COVID-19 Pandemic Response Team.

“NCR is not an island. May kalapit siyang Region 4-A, Region 3. Actually ‘yong mga kalapit-bayan niya, hindi pa kasingtulad ng NCR ang vaccine coverage,” ani Rabanjante.

Sandigan, Sandalan has four components: the Directory of Mental Health Service Providers, including referral systems for focal persons and faculty members; the Training on Mental Health Promotion in the Teaching-Learning Environment; the Training Program for Peer Mental Health Advocates; and, the Student Mental Health Advocacy Program.

The pandemic and the presence of variants of the new coronavirus has thrust a little-known agency into the limelight: the Philippine Genome Center (PGC).

The PGC has been tasked to do genomic sequencing, an essential job in the country’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, since last year when variants of concern reared their heads.

The center was formed after the Philippines hosted the Human Genome Organization Conference in the Asia Pacific in 2008, which prompted then University of the Philippines (UP) President Emerlinda Roman to establish a committee to look into the creation of a genome center under UP.
