Objective:
Public, private and government institutions of today operate in an environment characterized by intense competition, constant change and a strong customer focus. Considering today’s business environment, there is a strong need in all sectors and at all levels of the economy to apply engineering principles throughout the enterprise. The Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of the Philippines Los Baños recognized this as an opportunity to expand its horizons and networks and at the same time serve its core functions of research, instruction and extension. Thus in 2012, the MSEP was instituted. Several projects and services have since been offered to the university, and other public and private institutions.
This program applies engineering principles to identify, analyze and solve management problems within an enterprise or institution. Through research, education and training, the program provides and utilizes the appropriate tools and methods for management systems design, assessment, analysis, implementation, and improvement. It provides decision support to organizations through the development and application of approaches, methodologies, and systems in the areas related to process management, quality management, and cost management. These cover all aspects of business management, including the management of quality, occupational health and safety, environment, information technology, finance, among other. Examples of management system standards covered are ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management, ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management, and SA8000 Social Accountability.
