This is how DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña described the Philippine Genome Center, particularly pointing out its crucial role in helping the country with the daunting challenges posed by COVID-19. PGC was responsible for the genomic sequencing of COVID-19 and the putting up of, equipping, and strengthening the country’s testing capacity. 

Sec. Dela Peña delivered this online message during the Philippine Genome Center Visayas launch and inauguration on November 20, 2020, at the UP Visayas, Miagao campus. 

The UP Hamili Brotherhood and the UP Hamilia Sisterhood handed over P30,000.00 to Chancellor Clement Camposano on November 18, 2020. The money is being donated in support of the UPV Disaster Response Operation.

The amount is part of the “Help for Catanduanes and Cagayan Fund Drive” of the two organizations launched on Sunday to respond to the communities’ pressing needs in the Cagayan Valley Catanduanes, which were severely ravaged by the recent typhoons Ulysses and Rolly.

These past two weeks have been filled with news and reports of the catastrophic damage that has been caused by STY Rolly and TY Ulysses. In line with this, and the recent flooding triggered by the typhoons, UP Visayas met with the Office of the City mayor yesterday, November 16, 2020, to discuss a meta-analysis of extreme flooding studies in the Philippines that was conducted to extract lessons that could inform flood preparedness of Iloilo City. iAmUPHi is a non-stock non-profit association of UP High School alumni organized to help UPHSI meet the challenges of a limited budget and students’ financial and emotional needs. iAmUPHi has always recognized the need for uninterrupted education. And its donations came at a crucial time when the threat of infection made traditional face to face learning impracticable.

iAmUPHi’s and UP Alumni Association – Iloilo Chapter’s UP Fight Team turned-over three desktops and a computer printer to West Visayas State University Medical Center on November 7, 2020.

These gadgets came from UPHSI alumni and their friends’ donations through the iamUPHi “Fight for Frontliners” campaign. This campaign started in March 2020 when the region and the rest of the world battled with the Covid-19 pandemic. The efforts of the group continue up to now.

UP Visayas College of Management (UPV CM) alumni batch Bluechips93 turned over to UPV its donation in support of ISKOmpyuter Drive last October 21, 2020, at the New CM Lobby, UPV Iloilo City campus. 

Bluechips93 gave 10 tablets, ranging from 8-inch to 10-inch, amounting to Php77,900. The tablets were intended to be for the use of UPV CM’s students. The alumni batch chose three accountancy students, two marketing students, and five management students to be the beneficiaries.
