Sandigan, Sandalan has four components: the Directory of Mental Health Service Providers, including referral systems for focal persons and faculty members; the Training on Mental Health Promotion in the Teaching-Learning Environment; the Training Program for Peer Mental Health Advocates; and, the Student Mental Health Advocacy Program.

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) funded program “Tourism Studies on Island-Based Opportunities for Growth in Western Visayas – (TSIBOG)” commenced last July 2021 with seven research projects under its wing. One of these is the project “Bridging the Past, Sailing toward the Future: History to the (and by the People).”  The project partnered with the Local Government Unit of Ibajay, Aklan and the Department of Education – Division of Aklan to train elementary and secondary teachers, tourism and planning officers, and people’s organizations in doing historical research and promoting cultural heritage tourism in the Municipality of Ibajay.

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said ACTICon, which was developed by the University of the Philippines Los Banos-National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UPLB-BIOTECH) through the agency’s funding support, was piloted in Davao del Norte to determine its effect as biocontrol agent against Fusarium wilt (FocTR4) in Cavendish banana.

Through this training that was led by the PFDA Administrative Services Department – Human Resource Division (ASD-HRD), in partnership with the University of the Philippines – Institute of Small-Scale Industries (UP-ISSI), the agency seeks to help managers learn new leadership techniques and refine old managerial skills to effectively run their respective teams. 

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said the agency’s Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) has teamed up with the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman’s Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM) to implement the project seeking to protect the country’s marine mammals.

The project, entitled “Assessment and Mobilization of Research Initiatives on Philippine Marine Mammals (PHLMarMams)” is funded by the DOST-PCAARRD.

UPLB launched its Program for Zoonotic Diseases (or zoonoses) as the world celebrated the sixth annual One Health Day on Nov. 3.

Collaboration, multi-sectoral approaches to public health, and the inseparability of human, animal, and environmental health were the dominant themes in the two-hour event held via video conference.

UP President Danilo L. Concepcion, in a written message, acknowledged past research on zoonotic diseases and their contribution to our understanding of animal and human safety today.

The University of the Philippines Visayas Project Development Assistant for Mass Media and Communication of the Office of the Chancellor, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Division of Humanities partner with Rappler and MovePH for the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) webinar series entitled “Digital Media, Technology, and Society.” This four-part webinar series aims to engage teachers, students, and leaders to be critical and discerning online and intends to engage audience so they can better navigate and deal with the disruptive impact of technological innovation in addressing urgent issues and crises in media and democracy.
