As government employees should be guided by rules when it comes to participating in election activities, UPLB conducted a webinar entitled “To Do or Not to Do? That is the Question. An Orientation on Government Employees’ Participation in Election Activities.” 

The webinar, held on Feb. 9, discussed partisan political activities and UP policies, and answered questions of government employees on participating in election campaigns especially in the age of social media.

The Office of Counseling and Guidance (OCG) of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA) is implementing “UPLB BARKada at CATropa” to support the psychosocial needs of UPLB constituents as well as provide them an alternative venue to de-stress.

“UPLB BARKada at CATropa” promotes social interaction between animals and humans to help alleviate the negative effects of isolation and depression.

UPLB sealed a total of 20 Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with state, local, and private universities and colleges this year in its quest to connect, collaborate, and capacitate fellow higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country.

At the ceremonial signing of MOUs held via virtual conferencing on Dec. 7, UPLB formalized its partnerships with the  17th-20th partner HEIs – Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), Catanduanes State University (CatSU), Bohol Island State University (BISU), and University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP). 

Through the Institute of Crop Science of the College of Agriculture and Food Science, the UPLB crafted the “Hardin ng Kalusugan at Pagkain” (garden of health and food) as part of the edible landscaping (EL), a farming method in which basic landscaping principles and artistry are attractively merged with crop production to deliver a consistent supply of vegetables to households.

The turnover was held at the DA Central Office in Quezon City.

Waste coconut water has been put to good use, after a group of researchers from University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) developed low-cost phytohormones from it, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said.

The Philippines currently imports phytohormones which are used in tissue culture and plant propagation to induce crop growth and increase yield, DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said.
