The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), trained over 1,000 teachers on flexible learning through the capability building program “Gearing up for the Next Normal: Training of Teachers on Flexible Learning.” The newly trained teachers were also equipped to develop their own Teacher-Training Program to be the lead trainers of the said topic in their respective institutions.

SIBOL is UPOU’s program under the European Union-funded “Advancing Equity and Access to Higher Education through Open and Distance Learning” or BUKA project. It aims to build a network of institutions that shall form the core of zonal open and distance learning centers in the Philippines.
In line with the Teacher Development agenda, Open Education Week 2021 was held last 1 to 5 March 2021. To celebrate, UPOU lined up activities such as OPEN Talk, the new magazine program that was launched last 3 March 2021. OPEN Talk is broadcasted real-time over the UPOU Networks website and UPOU Networks Facebook page every other Wednesday at 6-7 PM. Another activity that was highlighted during the Open Education Week 2021 was the promotion of the availability of the Open Educational Resources (OER) available via the UPOU Networks as well. Both programs and activities are free of charge for the public viewership.
UP Open University organized a virtual round table discussion (VRTD) on “Sustainability and the University of the Future (UoF): Issues, Challenges & Prospects” on 10 December 2020. Hosted by the Faculty of Management Development Studies (FMDS), the VRTD was participated in by UPOU faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

The Faculty of Management and Development Studies will be hosting a Research Forum on 22 October 2020, 2:00 PM live via the UPOU Networks. The 3-hour activity will showcase the research and study outputs of selected students, staff, and faculty of FMDS.
