Almost one month after the opening of the current academic year last September 10, 2020, the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences Student Council (CFOS-SC) thanked the faculty members and staff of the College for making remote learning bearable.

In celebration of the World Teacher’s Day on October 5, the student council posted in their social media account a message expressing their appreciation for all the efforts done by the CFOS administration to make their transition from the traditional classroom to remote learning manageable.

Two students of the UPV College of Arts and Sciences were the initial recipients of laptops with WiFi connectivity during a simple ceremony held at the Iloilo City campus today, October 30, 2020.

Carlyn Grace P. Ausmolo, and Pia Anne Marie S. Apsay, 2nd year and 3rd year BA Community Development, respectively, received the laptops from CAS Dean Ma. Severa Fe Katalbas and Associate Dean Nilo Araneta. The laptops were generated by the UPV-CAS Kaagapay Committee.

Despite the pandemic, TLRC continues to perform its mandate to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

This year, TLRC launched its Virtual and Remote Assistance in Learning (VI.R.A.L) Program. This program aims at providing learning assistance to students to cope with the demands of remote learning.

UPV Teaching and Learning Resource Center in collaboration with the Division of Humanities (HumDiv), Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM), and in partnership with the UP Open University (UPOU) offered its first remote Bridge Program.

The Bridge Program is an annual preparatory course for incoming first-year students in need of upgrading their skills and mathematics and/or in English. The remote experience in the Bridge Program also served as the freshpersons’ first exposure to online modular classes.

COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of people all over the world. UP Visayas experienced the same fate as the rest of the country is waging a battle of unparalleled proportion against a virus, never before experienced by the modern world. Despite this, UPV never wavered and met the challenges of the pandemic head-on. The UPV community stood up and fended for one another.

Six months have passed after the first lockdown was issued on March 17, 2020. Although announced nine days earlier, the entire nation was unprepared, caught unaware of its far-reaching ramifications.

The Office of Student Affairs held the first-ever remote Orientation in the face of the new normal. Amidst the challenges brought by the pandemic, UPV still holds true to its virtue that “nobody should be left behind.” Despite the growing pains, this activity was conducted to ensure that the newest members of the UPV family, along with their parents, are given the necessary information about the university.

Beginning on 03 August 2020, the College of Science hosted an 8-day webinar series that focuses on Online/Flexible Teaching and Learning.

With the current global situation, many institutions are fast-tracking their transition to online or distance learning models, and there is no better expert than UP Open University.

The series invited professors from UP Open University, primarily known as a distance learning institution.
