Mindanao scientists are now in anticipation of the first research center to be established in the region aimed to strengthen local response to infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

On 3 May 2021, the Department of Science and Technology and the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao launched AMDABiDSS-Health, or Center for Applied Modeling, Data Analytics, and Bioinformatics for Decision Support Systems in Health while observing proper precautionary measures at Malayan Colleges Mindanao with viewers supporting via Zoom.

Launched in December last year, IBR is handled by the RIIC member-agencies, which include the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Information and Communications Technology, and Philippine Information Agency.

The academic institutions involved in the project are the University of the Philippines–Mindanao Campus and Ateneo de Davao University.

UP Mindanao hosted the online forum and consultation on “Bridging the Health Care Gaps In Mindanao” on 14 October 2020 for some 96 or more public health personnel, guests, and university constituents who attended through teleconferencing and social media platforms. The forum consultation is part of the plan to establish a UP Mindanao College of Medicine.

Officials of the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao and the local governments of Davao del Norte witnessed a milestone in their collaboration agreement with the turnover of a COVID-19 testing facility by the builder Maer Summit Konstrukt Company to the end-user Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in ceremonies held on 27 August 2020, in the Davao del Norte Provincial Capitol in Tagum City. Mr. Dino Mae Suelto, the Managing Partner of Maer Summit Konstrukt, presented the certificate of turnover to DRMC chief Dr. Bryan Dalid in the presence of the project partners.
