In commemoration of Philippine Independence Day, the University of the Philippines (UP) Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), Corps of Sponsors and Cadet Alumni Organization (CAO), spearheaded by Maria Christina Cecelia “Tina” Hernandez, once again conducted the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) Care Package Project.
Nine mango varieties and selections were unveiled at a press conference of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) on June 8, 2022.
The mangoes were identified by the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) in the University of Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) through a program funded by PCAARRD and led by plant breeding scientist Carolyn Alcasid.

The Institute of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS-IA) shared knowledge on basics of aquaculture to senior high school (SHS) teachers of Leganes National High School, Leganes, Iloilo on May 17, 2022.
CFOS-IA, through the Brackishwater Aquaculture Center (BAC), a research facility of the Institute based in Leganes, conducted an online lecture on the basic principles and practices in aquaculture, the cultivation of aquatic organisms such as fish, molluscs, crustaceans, and aquatic plants.

UPLB formalized its partnership with Rotary International District 3820 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the former to plant trees on a 20-ha area at the UPLB Laguna-Quezon Land Grant (LQLG) in Siniloan, Laguna.
The MOU, signed by both parties at a brief ceremony on April 30, covers the Rise Up 4 Sierra Madre District Legacy and Kick-Off, a long-term reforestation project by Rotary Club.
UPLB offered the land in UPLB LQLG for Rotary International District 3820 to plant trees.
IN its bid to co-create safe, empowered and sustainable communities, AboitizPower subsidiary Therma Luzon Inc. (TLI) has signed an agreement with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) to implement a community baseline program in its host communities in Pagbilao, Quezon province.

A probiotics technology developed by the UPLB-National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UPLB-BIOTECH) has been helping fish farmers in Nueva Vizcaya improve and increase their yield.
Under the MOU, the agency will seek the expertise of UPLB’s Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) for seeds and the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (NIMBB) for biotechnology inputs.
UPLB-IPB will undertake programs supporting the production of seeds, scions, stocks, plantations, fruits, vegetables, legumes, root crops, rice, corn, cassava, and adlai.
Meanwhile, UPLB-NIMBB will support the production of biofertilizers, feed ingredients or supplements, probiotics, and other products of biotechnology.
