The legacy of National Artist José Monserrat Maceda, composer, scholar, philosopher and humanist, covers a wide breadth of human endeavours, interests and aspirations, with special significance to the musical cultures of the Philippines and Southeast Asia vis a vis the Asian civilization at large, as well as the rest of the world.
To celebrate Jose Maceda’s 100th birth year, the U.P Center for Ethnomusicology launched the Maceda100, a series of special events featuring an international symposium, musical performances of his compositions, exhibits, and research activities scattered throughout the year of 2017 with an official kick-off on January 31, 2017 (his 100th birthday).

To equip participants with food processing techniques which they can use to process food products available on their community.

The Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs, through the Padayon Public Service Office has launched the first Public Service Writing Fellowship. As a public service university, University of the Philippines aims to promote and develop public service initiatives and projects across all UP constituent universities. As a research university, the university also aims to promote the production and development of knowledge for the improvement of the lives of Filipinos.

The University of the Philippines, through the Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs, has made the call for nominations to the second Gawad Pangulo: Award for Excellence in Public Service.

Nominations should belong to the five clusters: Arts and Letters and Communications; Science and Technology; Social Sciences, Management, and Law; Health and Allied Sciences; and Agriculture, Forestry, Fishery, and Natural Resources Management. Awardees will receive prize money worth PhP 100,000.00.

Dr. Joane Serrano is currently the Director of the Information Office and the Multimedia Center at UP Open University. She has been with the university for 20 years and serves as an Associate Professor under the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) and also teaches courses in the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies and Faculty of Education. She was awarded the Academic Excellence Award when she finished her PhD in Development Communication in 2013.

The 3rd AsiaEngage Regional Conference was held last 21-23 November 2016 in the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City and was attended by close to 250 participants from all over Southeast Asia. The event is a collaboration of the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia – UKM. Papers presented were chosen based on their relevance to the conference sub-themes which highlight partnerships of universities with government, communities, industries, and civil society.

This initiative seeks to provide a flexible space where entrepreneurs and startups can work together in a common and shared environment.

The Extension Programs in Linguistics (EPL) are extension activities of the Department of Linguistics that seek to share and validate linguistic knowledge of both individuals and organizations seeking to utilize such knowledge in their line of duty, function or interest. There are two regular extension activities under it, which the department seeks to institutionalize—the Philippine Linguistics Congress, and the Summer Seminar in Linguistics.

This program aims to assist and guide the Bay, Laguna Sangguniang Bayan and municipal offices in the creation of its local climate change program technical working group, as well as the preparation of its project proposal to access the People’s Survival Fund (PSF). It also aims to help in the formulation of its Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP), and in the formulation and implementation of its climate change action programs, projects and/or activities.
