The UP Hamili Brotherhood and the UP Hamilia Sisterhood handed over P30,000.00 to Chancellor Clement Camposano on November 18, 2020. The money is being donated in support of the UPV Disaster Response Operation.

The amount is part of the “Help for Catanduanes and Cagayan Fund Drive” of the two organizations launched on Sunday to respond to the communities’ pressing needs in the Cagayan Valley Catanduanes, which were severely ravaged by the recent typhoons Ulysses and Rolly.

These past two weeks have been filled with news and reports of the catastrophic damage that has been caused by STY Rolly and TY Ulysses. In line with this, and the recent flooding triggered by the typhoons, UP Visayas met with the Office of the City mayor yesterday, November 16, 2020, to discuss a meta-analysis of extreme flooding studies in the Philippines that was conducted to extract lessons that could inform flood preparedness of Iloilo City. The Department of Human and Family Development Studies of the College of Human Ecology will hold the annual and eighth Pintig from Nov. 14 to 25.

This year’s Pintig, unique as it is the first time it will be held online via Zoom and Facebook Live streaming, is made possible through a collaboration with the UPLB Human and Family Development Society and Pintig Adolescent Development and Psychosocial Support Program. 

The holding of Pintig began in 2013 to provide a venue for free workshops and forum on psychosocial issues and concerns among adolescents. 

UPLB CARES hopes to encourage individuals, alumni, groups, or organizations to support UPLB students in their remote learning needs by becoming a donor. Interested donors have five donation packages to choose from: Package A covers Internet subsidy only which can be paid monthly or in lump sum. This amounts to Php 2,000 per month load and a pocket Wi-Fi. Package B covers one-time gadget only donation ranging from Php 20,000 to Php 30,000 for laptop purchase with specifications good for Office applications and web conferencing or a tablet with the same specifications or with peripherals like bluetooth keyboard. Package C covers a combination of Packages A and B, internet and gadget, Package D covers financial assistance of any amount, and Package E covers donation of actual gadgets or laptops.

Residents of UPLB staff housing facilities who need a safe place to stay tonight during the expected onslaught of Typhoon Rolly in the campus are encouraged to evacuate to Baker Hall as soon as possible.

In anticipation of the damaging winds and strong rains that Typhoon Rolly will bring to the campus, Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. designated Baker Hall as evacuation center for UPLB staff residing in over 200 staff housing facilities in the campus.
