The University of the Philippines Visayas Project Development Assistant for Mass Media and Communication of the Office of the Chancellor, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Division of Humanities partner with Rappler and MovePH for the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) webinar series entitled “Digital Media, Technology, and Society.” This four-part webinar series aims to engage teachers, students, and leaders to be critical and discerning online and intends to engage audience so they can better navigate and deal with the disruptive impact of technological innovation in addressing urgent issues and crises in media and democracy.

The College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) is going to conduct the “Faculty Training on Technopreneurship” on the Fridays of November.

The training will be conducted to develop capabilities of the faculty on mentoring students about entrepreneurship to promote innovation and technologies developed in the fields of specialization.

Two batches of first year students have already registered in UPLB during the pandemic and most, if not all of them, have not even stepped foot inside the UPLB campus.

They must be raring to go to UPLB. And so does the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA).

The Office of Student Housing (OSH) and Office of Student Activities (OSA), which are both under the OVCSA, launched on Oct. 28 the “Open House: Easing Up on Life at Home,” a webinar series to foster the spirit of community and belongingness among students and bring the rich and diverse UPLB culture to every Isko and Iska in the comfort of their homes.

The UPLB Learning Resource Center (LRC) conducted the UPLB Recruitment Program for the Best and the Brightest (RPBB) in three Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campuses, namely: PSHS Ilocos Region Campus on Oct. 7; PSHS Southern Mindanao Campus on Oct. 14; and the PSHS Cagayan Valley on Oct. 29.

Growers will be encouraged to use chicken dung, controlled release fertilizer, foliar fertilizer, agricultural lime for acidic areas, soil drenching and mykovam — a soil-based biofertilizer containing fungi that was developed by the University of the Philippines Los Baños’ Institute of Biotechnology.

More than 400 first-year students experienced remote education in UP Visayas ahead of their peers as they took the Bridge Program in Mathematics and English held from August 26 to September 9, 2021. The program was conducted through the UPV Learning Management System (LMS).

The Teaching and Learning Resource Center, for 24 years now, has been collaborating with faculty members from the Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) and the Division of Humanities (DH) to deliver an effective and enriching learning experience to incoming first-year students.

To enrich the remote learning environment in UP Visayas, the Teaching and Learning Resource Center facilitated training for three non-consecutive days on online teaching principles and applications under its Teach S.M.A.R.T. (Strategies, Methods, Approaches, Rudiments, and Theories) program.

The Teach S.M.A.R.T. training aimed to address potential challenges that online teachers face and upskill faculty members and lecturers of UP Visayas to deliver a more organized and resource-based teaching strategy by discussing key concepts on teaching pedagogies that can be utilized in remote learning.

The UPLB Learning Resource Center (LRC) recently wrapped up its 6-month long webinar series entitled, “S.H.A.P.E. UP! Thursday: Shaping a Healthy, Active, Positive, and Energetic Life during Uncertain Times” webinar series. 

The sessions, aimed to promote healthy, energetic, and mindful habits during the COVID-19 pandemic, were streamed via Facebook Live.

Dr. Lorna E. Sister of the UPLB CAFS Institute of Crop Science leads the documentation initiative for indigenous vegetables which produced pamphlets containing information on “katutubong gulay” that are available all over the country.
